Book Chat,  Psychological Thriller,  Saturdays at the Cafe

Saturdays at the Café: December 29, 2018 @peterswanson3 @elliott_lexie

Saturdays at the Café is a weekly feature hosted by my friend Jonetta at Blue Mood Café to talk about and discuss the books that I’ve discovered during the past week, added to my shelf, and am excited to read! The titles could be books I saw on Netgalley, at a bookstore, at the library, or on friend’s blogs, goodreads, or bookstagram. I’m so excited to join in with Jonetta this week!

I’m on the beautiful Oregon coast this week visiting family and refreshing my soul. I had a brilliant walk on the beach this morning and now I’m ready to post about some books I’m looking forward to!

The Kind Worth Killing

I discovered this book when I was looking at Peter Swanson’s newest book on Goodreads, Before She Knew Him, and I saw The Kind Worth Killing. I think it looks pretty amazing! I ordered it on Amazon and it should be waiting for me when I get home. Let me know if you’ve read it!

About the Book

A devious tale of psychological suspense so irresistible that it prompts Entertainment Weekly to ask, “Is The Kind Worth Killing the next Gone Girl?” From one of the hottest new thriller writers, Peter Swanson, a name you may not know yet (but soon will), this is his breakout novel in the bestselling tradition of Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train—and is soon to be a major movie directed by Agnieszka Holland.

In a tantalizing set-up reminiscent of Patricia Highsmith’s classic Strangers on a Train… On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start—he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit—a contrast that once inflamed their passion, but has now become a cliché.

But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda for what she’s done. Lily, without missing a beat, says calmly, “I’d like to help.” After all, some people are the kind worth killing, like a lying, stinking, cheating spouse. . . .

Back in Boston, Ted and Lily’s twisted bond grows stronger as they begin to plot Miranda’s demise. But there are a few things about Lily’s past that she hasn’t shared with Ted, namely her experience in the art and craft of murder, a journey that began in her very precocious youth.

Suddenly these co-conspirators are embroiled in a chilling game of cat-and-mouse, one they both cannot survive . . . with a shrewd and very determined detective on their tail.

The Missing Years

This one I received from Berkley this week, and I’m really excited! I missed Lexie Elliott’s last novel The French Girl when it came out, but I’ve heard wonderful things about her writing. The teaser for The Missing Years sounds incredible–the perfect thriller read for me this spring!

About the Book

The French Girl captivated readers with a twisting tale of psychological suspense. Now author Lexie Elliott heads to the foothills of the Scottish Highlands, where a woman’s tangled family history comes back to haunt her…

An eerie, old Scottish manor in the middle of nowhere that’s now hers.

Ailsa Calder has inherited half of a house. The other half belongs to a man who disappeared without a trace twenty-seven years ago–her father.

Leaving London behind to settle the inheritance from her mother’s estate, Ailsa returns to her childhood home, nestled amongst the craggy peaks of the Scottish Highlands, joined by the half-sister who’s almost a stranger to her.

Ailsa can’t escape the claustrophobic feeling that the house itself is watching her– as if her past hungers to consume her. She also can’t ignore how the neighborhood animals refuse to set one foot within the gates of the garden.

When the first nighttime intruder shows up, Ailsa fears that the manor’s careless rugged beauty could cost her everything.
