Book Review: You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen @stmartinspress @greerkh @sarahpekkanen #youarenotalone #bookreview
Psychological thrillers will always be my go-to type of book. They delight me and thrill me no matter what mood I’m in. And for me personally, they help me escape the stressful times. I’m actually reading Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen’s You Are Not Alone for the second time, because I just found it so great to lose myself in. Something about the way this duo writes just grabs my attention and holds it. I have loved every book I’ve read by them, and this one was no exception!
About the Book
You probably know someone like Shay Miller.
She wants to find love, but it eludes her.
She wants to be fulfilled, but her job is a dead end.
She wants to belong, but her life is so isolated.
You probably don’t know anyone like the Moore sisters.
They have an unbreakable circle of friends.
They live the most glamorous life.
They always get what they desire.
Shay thinks she wants their life.
But what they really want is hers.
Reflection
If you haven’t read a book by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen before, then you might find that about the book a bit vague (yet still gripping, if you ask me!). That is what I find with all of their books, and so I pretty much go in blind reading them and find myself loving the ride. They are designed that way!
I want to give you that same chance, so I’m begrudgingly keeping this review vague as well. Here is what I feel comfortable saying about the plot: lonely and down-on-her-luck Shay Miller is still full of hope. Shay is the type of woman who believes she can find love. Who continues pursuing her dream job despite set backs and disappointment. Who truly looks to find human connection.
And if Shay weren’t exactly who she was—if she didn’t pause to fix her hair or if she took a cab instead of the subway—then she wouldn’t have witnessed a shocking event. An event that combined with Shay’s own unique characteristics leads her to meet the Moore sisters.
The Moore sisters are nearly perfect in every way. Beautiful, successful, poised, and surrounded by adoration, who wouldn’t want to be friends with them? And so Shay gets a bit obsessed with them. But the Moore sisters also happen to find themselves a bit obsessed with Shay. And suddenly you’ll wonder, who is really stalking whom in this friendship? And what does it all mean?
The characters in this book as with all of their books are outstanding and standout in their own way. And I don’t just mean Shay or the Moore sisters, I am also including many supporting characters in this. Shay’s roommate and his girlfriend, for instance, and the Moore sisters’ other friends—they are all fascinating and captivating.
I also loved that the story surrounded very current issues that are prevalent today. Obviously I won’t say what those are, but suffice it to say this book felt very plugged into now and tapped into many things that stand beyond this book.
Truly a masterpiece! I can’t recommend this enough!
Thank you St. Martin’s Press for my copy. I bought my own hardcover. Opinions are my own.
