Last Day opened in a very powerful way! It is Beth Lathrop’s last day. Her friends, family, and loved ones wake up expecting her to be alive. Instead, Beth Lathrop, six months pregnant and in her own home, has been murdered in her own bedroom. When her sister Kate finds her, Beth has been dead for several days.

This alone is quite a start to a book. But there was so much more to the story than Beth’s murder. In fact, the story began decades earlier, when a young Beth and Kate were kidnapped along with their mother during a robbery at their family’s art gallery. Beth and Kate were bound, gagged, and tethered to their mother who died from suffocation from her gag. All to steal Moonlight, a Benjamin Morris painting in the gallery.

Now, as Kate finds her sister’s body, history seems to be repeating itself. The same painting goes missing and another one of Kate’s family members are dead. Is it a coincidence? Or is it something more?

The premise for this pulled me right in, and I found it to be a quick and gripping read! This is definitely a page-turner. I was really suspicious of one character in particular, but I won’t say who or if I was right! I really enjoyed the detective Conor. He was the same detective who worked on Kate and Beth’s case originally, and he is a great lens for us as readers to view the similarities of the cases through. Afterall, Kate was quite young during the first one.

I found the ending reveal to be surprising and satisfying. This is a compelling book that will definitely keep you interested!
