BLOG TOUR: The Honeymoon by Rona Halsall @RonaHalsallAuth @bookouture #booksontour #blogblitz #thehoneymoon

A whirlwind romance leads to a dream honeymoon…but what if that dream turns out to be a nightmare? I have to say, UK psychological thrillers are almost always pretty wild rides, and this one was no exception! The characters in this are really something, and at one point I truly had NO idea what I thought was going on. A total mind-trip!

About the Book

‘I’m your husband, Chloe. We’re a partnership now and we do what’s best for us as a couple. Staying here is going to be the best option.’ He picked up his drink and took a sip. ‘It’s not open for discussion. We’re not going home.’

Chloe had the dream wedding. Dan is her perfect man. They haven’t known each other for long, but as she walked down the aisle and saw him standing by the altar, tears glistening in his eyes, she knew this was forever.

Later, as they relax on a beautiful island, settling in to their new married life together, they congratulate themselves on their lovely wedding day, and Dan jokes that he’d like them to stay there forever.

But as the honeymoon goes on, he becomes increasingly adamant. They shouldn’t leave. In fact, he won’t let her…

Reflection

I’m going to keep this short because I want to stop before any twists start coming in the story (and let me say, there are a LOT of twists!). Chloe and Dan have only known each other for two months when the story begins with them on their way to their honeymoon. 2! Months!

You read that right! So before I even move forward, can you even imagine it? But Chloe is instantly certain about Dan. He has such obvious love in his eyes when they are together. And Chloe has a broken family life. Her mother passed away, her siblings can barely stand her, and though she tries to take care of her Gran, it’s clear to her that her Gran can’t forgive her for what happened…

Chloe’s family are really a puzzle in this book! I was so intrigued—why are her siblings so mad at her? Well, trust me, you will find out! And her gran also seems to not really like Chloe all that much, even though Chloe does everything she can to care for her.

When Dan comes along, I think it is easier to understand why Chloe falls hard and fast. First, Dan does clearly love her. Second, Chloe is so alone. She has almost no friends, and her family is less than supportive and loving towards her.

I really loved Chloe! But every other character in the entire book I was suspicious of at one point. And that’s a fun part about psychological thrillers! You either trust everyone and are surprised at the reveal, or you trust no one and are still surprised at the reveal!

I read this one with my friend Berit at Audio Killed the Bookmark (also on the blog tour today!) and we both had that same feeling of “what is going on and why is everyone in Chloe’s life acting so bizarre??”

And the twists through the book and at the end—fun, delightful, and wild! Do not skip this one!

About the Author

Rona lives on the Isle of Man with her husband, two dogs and three guinea pigs. She has been a bookworm since she was a child and now she’s actually creating stories of her own, which still feels like a dream come true.

She is an outdoorsy person and loves stomping up a mountain, walking the coastal paths and exploring the wonderful beaches on the Island while she’s plotting how to kill off her next victim. She also makes sure she deletes her Google history on a regular basis, because… well, you can’t be too careful when you spend your life researching new and ingenious ways for people to die.

She has three children and two step-children who are now grown up and leading varied and interesting lives, which provides plenty of ideas for new stories!
